Simon’s Cat Knocks Stuff Down

March 16th, 2012

Simon captures cat behaviour really well. Everyone that owns a cat will recognize the things cats do in his drawings. In this video, Simon’s cat knocks stuff down & then he “bats” what looks like a bunny figurine a few times until he pushes it off the mantelpiece. I’m not currently a cat owner because my allergies are so bad – but, it always makes me smile when I see what that damn cat of Simon’s is up to. He seems surprised that things go flying to the ground as he rubs up against them.

I love the elegant way that cats jump off of things: they put their front paws against a flat surface & then jump. This must act a stabilizer for when they land. I’ll have to copy this ingenious method next time I jump off the mantel.

Tetris Effect

February 19th, 2012

Harvard professor Shawn Achor, talks about positive psychology and happiness. He calls it the Tetris Effect. The tetris effect can be applied to improve our state of mind. You can train your brain to look for “happiness patterns”. It’s the key to why our brains are powerful when linked with positive activities to teach us to be happy. He uses positive interventions every day to train the brain to pick up good ideas. For example, every morning, write down five things that make you happy.

The brain will start scanning for patterns that you’re grateful for every day. Instead of looking for bad input, like the news or traffic – we can’t help but think of what makes us happy (if we train our brain to do that). Just think back to when we were first in love. Nothing bothered us. We didn’t even think about unpleasant thoughts. Because there were none. All we could do was think about our life with our love & the things we did with them. Train your brain to have a positive reaction to the environment that’s around you.

If you’re interested in the Tetris Effect, his book is available from Amazon. It’s called, “The Happiness Advantage”.

The Vow

February 14th, 2012

My last post was how stupid Valentine’s Day is. And, it is. This trailer for the the movie, The Vow, looks really good. It happens to be debuting on Valentine’s Day – so, I’ll post it to be nice. My ex-husband is always telling me to be nice. The movie looks like it might be good. I’ll probably cry. It has Rachel McAdams in it from The Notebook, which I thought was really sappy. And lame. Hopefully, this is better than The Notebook.

In The Vow, a married couple has a car accident and his wife, Paige loses her memory. She doesn’t recognize her husband or anything about their love. So, he has to try to win back her heart again. She’s really resistant to his love. He keeps trying. Let’s see if The Vow is a movie that I like. I wonder if she ever really loved him?

Valentine’s Day

February 14th, 2012

Video about how I really feel that Valentine’s Day. We should celebrate our love all the time – not just on Valentine’s Day. So, I agree with Zaid Ali. And, I’m not saying that just because I’m single either …. Although, I do think couples in love are adorable. Idiot. Lol.
